Which categories sell best during Diwali 2026? Real best-seller data on ethnic wear, kitchen, home décor and gifting, plus a 3-week checklist for Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho sellers.

Diwali is the biggest shopping season of the year for Indian online sellers. In 2026, Dhanteras falls on 6 November and Lakshmi Puja on 8 November. Buyers start shopping two to three weeks earlier, so a product that is not live, priced and in stock by the last week of October has largely missed the wave.

This guide looks at which categories sell best around Diwali on Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho, using real best-seller data from EvoInsight, and ends with a practical checklist for the final weeks before the festival.

What the best-seller data shows

EvoInsight tracks around 7,600 best-selling products across Meesho, Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal. A product is only included if it has a real customer rating and review count. The table below adds up the customer ratings in the festive-relevant categories. Ratings are lifetime figures rather than Diwali-only sales, but they are a solid sign of where proven, repeat demand sits.

1. Ethnic wear: the biggest Diwali category

Ethnic wear is the largest category in the data by a wide margin, and sarees alone account for 247 best-selling products with more than 28 lakh customer ratings. Kurtas and kurta sets (140 best-sellers) and lehengas (107 best-sellers) follow. Diwali is when families buy new clothes for puja, visits and office parties, so this is the category where the season matters most.

  • Sell: silk-look and festive sarees, kurta sets for men and women, matching family sets, lehengas and festive kids' wear.
  • Watch: sizing and colour accuracy. Returns are the main risk in ethnic wear, so use clear photos in natural light and a size chart in every listing.

2. Kitchen appliances and kitchen & dining

Dhanteras is traditionally a day to buy something new for the home, especially metal and kitchen items. Together, kitchen appliances and kitchen & dining products carry more than 58 lakh ratings in the data. Mixer grinders, induction cooktops, electric kettles, cookware sets, steel dinner sets and storage containers all sell well, both for the buyer's own home and as gifts.

3. Home décor, lights and puja essentials

Every home is cleaned and decorated before Diwali. Home décor best-sellers in the data carry more than 11 lakh ratings, and puja products are well represented too. Diyas, torans, rangoli kits, decorative lights, wall hangings, cushion covers and puja thalis are classic Diwali products. Many are small, light and cheap to ship, which makes them a good fit for Meesho.

  • Tip: these products have a short peak. Stock them early and plan to clear inventory right after the festival.
  • Tip: fragile items such as glass and ceramic diyas need good packaging. Price the packaging in from the start.

4. Gifting: fragrances, gift sets and toys

Diwali gifting goes far beyond sweets. Gift-related products in the data carry close to 6 lakh ratings. Fragrances (14 lakh+ ratings across just 43 best-sellers, with one of the highest average ratings at 4.27) are a strong gifting pick. Combo gift sets, dry fruit boxes, decorative showpieces and toys and games for children all do well in the festive weeks.

5. Home and bedding upgrades

Bedsheets, curtains, towels and small furniture are bought before guests arrive. Bedding & bath best-sellers carry nearly 10 lakh ratings and home & furniture more than 15 lakh. Festive colours and prints, such as red, maroon, gold and floral designs, outsell plain stock at this time of year.

Diwali seller checklist: the last 3 weeks

  1. Go live early. New listings need a few days to be indexed and picked up. Aim to have everything live at least two weeks before Dhanteras.
  2. Use festive keywords. Add words buyers actually search, such as "Diwali decoration for home", "Diwali gift" and "festive saree", to titles and descriptions where they genuinely fit the product. EvoInsight keyword research shows which terms are being searched on each platform.
  3. Refresh your images. Festive images sell better in this season. Evo Studio's AI Image Pro creates a full 6-image marketplace pack from one product photo.
  4. Check your shipping cost. On Meesho, a few rupees of shipping can decide whether a cheap décor item makes money. EvoFlow Engine's Shipping Optimization finds variants that land inside the shipping window you set.
  5. Stock for the peak, not for the average. A stock-out in the last week before Diwali loses both the sale and your ranking.
  6. Plan for returns. Clothing and fragile décor have the highest return rates. Clear size charts and honest photos reduce them more than anything else.
  7. Plan the post-Diwali clearance. Décor and puja items fall off sharply after the festival. Decide in advance how you will discount leftover stock.

When should sellers start preparing for Diwali?

Ideally a month before. Buyers start festive shopping two to three weeks before Dhanteras, and new listings take time to start ranking. For Diwali 2026 (Dhanteras on 6 November), the last week of October is the practical deadline to have products live and stocked.

Which category sells the most during Diwali?

In EvoInsight's best-seller data, ethnic wear is the largest category by far: 951 best-selling products with more than 59 lakh customer ratings. Sarees, kurta sets and lehengas lead. Kitchen appliances and home décor follow.

Is Diwali a good time for new sellers to start?

Yes, if you choose a category with steady demand and keep your first catalogue small. Festive décor and gifting products are easy to start with but have a short peak. Ethnic wear and kitchen items keep selling after the festival through the wedding season.
